World Time Zones Map — Global Clock Data Relief

Design narrative

Every time zone on Earth is represented as a raised tile whose height encodes the hour that zone reads at 12:00 UTC. Tiles form a 24-rung staircase running west to east; six colours group the rungs into four-hour blocks (Small Hours, Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Midnight). Zones with half- or quarter-hour offsets sit between rungs rather than being rounded. The shapes of zone boundaries—long straight cuts, stepped coastlines and jagged borders—are preserved by using Natural Earth’s 10m time zone polygons (v5.0.0, public domain). This is a cartographic data relief: height encodes clock hour, not elevation, and Natural Earth records standard time only (no daylight saving). The panel shares its coastline and frame with other maps in the set so the pieces hang visually consistent with the World Elevation, Population, Earth at Night, Temperature and Rainfall panels.

Printability and assembly

The kit is laid out as 371 numbered parts that print as adjoining tiles on a desktop printer and assemble into one hanging panel (dimensions of the assembled panel are provided). Every part is numbered on the assembly map, on the 1:1 wall template and recessed into its back face; arrows and orientation dots assist correct placement for small pieces. The download includes print settings, the colour plan and the licence.

Files and licence

Included files provide 3MF plates for six print plates, individual STLs for every part, assembly maps and 1:1 wall templates, plus reports and manifests. Licence: Bibizoza Personal Use License (included in the package).

3D printing settings

Recommended setup

The original generated kit uses:

15% infill

2 perimeters approximately 690 g of filament approximately 66–101 hours printing time

The model was generated for a 256 × 256 mm print area.

Scaling

If you scale the STL directly in your slicer, remember that scaling changes not only the width and height but also the thickness of the model.

If you need a significantly different finished size, it is better to generate/remix the model at the required dimensions in Bibizoza rather than simply scaling the STL.
