Sobre este modelo
The factory phone cradle in the Volvo EX30 is sleek, but it presents a few practical challenges: thick foldable phones (like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series) simply don't fit, wired charging forces you to dock your phone upside down, and built-in wireless charging produces excess heat while charging slowly. To fix this, I designed a modular phone holder adapter for the EX30 center console.
Design & Features The holder is split into two modular components for easy size swapping:
- Universal Base: Slots directly and securely into the EX30's factory phone cradle.
- Phone Holder Body: Features a widened pocket with a bottom cable cutout to allow upright, right-side-up wired charging.
- Parametric Source Included: An editable parametric model is attached so you can quickly tweak dimensions for different phone widths or case thicknesses without designing from scratch.
Assembly & Installation
- Assembly: Slide the phone holder onto the universal base using the built-in dovetail joint until it locks securely into place.
- Installation: Press the assembled unit into the EX30 console slots. No modifications or tools required.
Important Notes & Trade-Offs (Please Read) 1. Phone & Case Wear Caution: Unlined 3D-printed plastic layers act like fine sandpaper against phone bodies or cases over time. It can cause cosmetic scuffs, especially on soft silicone cases. Use at your own risk. Adding thin foam/felt tape inside the holder may help, but I am not able to verify. I assume no responsibility for any device or case damage. 2. Center Console Flap Clearance (Plus & Ultra Trims): When charging via cable, the plugged-in connector extends down toward the console drawer flaps. You will need to unplug the cable or lift the phone out before opening or closing the center console flaps. 3. Key Card Reader & Dual-Holder Setup:
- Single Mount (Recommended): Installing one holder on the right side preserves access to the key card reader on the left side.
- Dual Mount: As shown in the pictures, you can fit two holders side-by-side. However, covering the left side completely blocks access to the NFC key card reader and the wireless pad. If your EX30 trim relies on physical key cards or digital key (NFC) to start the vehicle, stick to a single holder on the right side.
- Width Limits: The dual setup only accommodates standard-width phones side-by-side. Two wide/unfolded devices (Like iPhone Plus/Max) will not fit together. Always measure before printing two!
Print Settings & Filament Guidelines
- Material: DO NOT USE PLA. The EX30’s open center console receives direct sunlight through the sunroof. PLA will deform under summer cabin heat. ASA or ABS is strongly recommended. PETG may work in milder climates.
- Supports: None required.
- Bed Adhesion: The holder section prints standing upright. On Core-XY machines like the Bambu Lab P1S, it prints reliably without brim, but adding a 5mm brim is recommended if using a bed-slinger (e.g., A1/A1 Mini) or experiencing adhesion issues.
Feedback & Community If you print one, please upload a picture and leave a rating! Sharing your customization parameters might help other EX30 owners with the same phone. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any feedback or suggestions. Happy printing!
