Sobre este modelo

Vanillin (C8H8O3, CAS 121-33-5) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Each atom is labelled with its own engraved element symbol: no colour chart needed.

Look at the skeleton first: Vanillin contains one aromatic 6-membered ring, and students can trace 19 bonds (12 single, 1 double and 6 aromatic). Hand the model round and let students tally the engraved atoms: 8 C + 8 H + 3 O, 19 in total. On the printed model, students can point to the aldehyde group (-CHO), the phenolic hydroxyl group (Ar-OH) and the ether linkage (C-O-C). A good fit for lessons on aromaticity and delocalised electrons, on the carbonyl group (C=O), as well as on phenols and hydrogen bonding. Same formula, different structure: put it next to (-)-Mandelic acid (CAS 611-71-2) and Methylparaben (CAS 99-76-3) from the same collection and ask students what changed.

MolGod.org builds and releases these models at no cost for chemistry teaching. Teachers: hand out printed copies and ask students to rebuild the structural formula from the model.

A ball-and-stick model of Vanillin with each element symbol recessed into its atom sphere, generated by MolGod.org from a PubChem-computed 3D conformer (not an experimental crystal structure); atomic coordinates and connectivity are unchanged. STL mesh: 259,524 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.

Names in other languages: Vanilline (fr); vanillina (it); vanilline (nl); wanilina (pl); 香草醛 (zh).
