Don't toss your empty spools. Turn one into a Ferris wheel for your screws.
Boost MeLike it? A Boost helps a lot 🚀 Printed one? Share a Make and tell us your spool brand, so others can copy your numbers! ♻️ Every roll you finish leaves an empty spool behind. Here the spool itself becomes the wheel: you only print two frames, two crossbars and the cups. The cups hang near the rim and stay level all the way round, so screws, nuts and small parts are always one spin away. Made for YOUR spool: click Customize. Spools differ from brand to brand, so every part is rebuilt from your own measurements. Grab a ruler or caliper and measure 6 numbers (the measuring guide in the pictures shows where each one goes):
- spool diameter, overall width, flange thickness
- centre hole, core diameter, distance from the centre to the cup holes
Then pick how many cups you want (3 to 12) and how big. The frames, hubs and cups resize to fit. The model checks that every cup clears the core and its neighbours through a full turn, and warns you if it doesn't. Defaults are for an empty Cailab 1 kg spool. No holes in your spool? Melt them with a soldering iron at the distance you set, one per cup. No screws, no supports. The crossbars press onto pegs on the frame feet (a drop of glue helps). Each cup hangs on two 12 mm pieces of 1.75 mm filament: push one through the flange hole and the cup hole, heat both ends and pinch them flat. Scrap filament from the same roll works fine.
