The Sponge Tray That Actually Drains 🧽

My daughter asked if I could make a sponge tray for the back of her sink. Simple ask, and the whole design is one idea: a wet sponge sitting in its own puddle stays wet, gets slimy and starts to smell. So this one never lets the water sit.

🟩 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗧 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞

▸ 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗯𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲 — The sponge rests on ridges, not on a flat floor, so air moves underneath it and the underside dries at the same rate as the top.

▸ 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿 — The base slopes toward the drain opening, so water runs off instead of pooling in the low spot.

▸ 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗸 — The opening sits at the front edge and points back over the basin, so everything it sheds goes down the drain and not onto the counter.

▸ 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝘂𝘁 — No trap, no reservoir, no removable insert to forget about. Mine gets a wipe once a week and that is the whole maintenance routine.

🟩 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧

125 × 104 × 25 mm. One piece, no hardware, no assembly.

🟩 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗨𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦

▸ 4h 27m and 68.00 g on a single plate

▸ 22.80 m of filament, roughly $1.02

▸ No filament swaps

🟩 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗧 𝗦𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦

No supports · 5mm outer brim · 0.12mm layer height · Z anti-aliasing · 9% gyroid infill · 3 walls · 5/5 top and bottom · PLA · 220 °C nozzle · 60 °C bed

The 0.12 mm layers and Z anti-aliasing are there for the finish — anti-aliasing smooths the layer lines on the sloped top, and this one sits out on the counter where people see it. If your slicer has no anti-aliasing setting, just print it without. Print it at 0.20 mm if you would rather have it sooner. PLA has held up fine on a kitchen sink for months. Happy printing! 🧽
