Sobre este modelo
Snap-and-Spin OctaTwist This design is inspired by DaveMakesStuff's original OctaTwist (thanks, Dave), which can be printed in one piece and works great. While playing with Dave’s OctaTwist, I got curious about the individual pieces and the basic math behind them. When I started sketching it on Fusion 360, I realized that it could be a snap-on structure. It is not as smooth but it gives students a different kind of building experience. Further, each piece can be printed with a different color, using left-over filaments. And yes, you can connect more than eight pieces; but that won't be a regular octagon. Then, I saw some little bearings I had on the desk. Perhaps we could try the bearings in order to minimize friction. The bearing-mounted model works much better than I expected, especially so with the added weight. We can certainly scale up the size of each piece. It offers a nice kinesthetic feel. A few types of files are included. The side length refers to the that of the cross-sectional regular octagon. For bearings, use either 685ZZ (5mm x 11mm x 5mm) or 687ZZ (7mm x 14mm x 5mm) or 627ZZ (7mm x 22mm x 7mm) or 608ZZ (8mm x 22mm x 7mm). Print at 0.18mm or less, 15% infill or higher.
