put in sand paper (i used sanding disk with glue backing) to sand down the outer edge of the smaller side of middle-link. just put the link in, put your hand on top and move your hand in small circles.
the edge is all that is needed for sanding, but it is a very tight fit. the rest of the exterior of the male side does not need sanding.
depending on your print settings or physical strength, you may also need to sand the inner edge of the female side. if you are able to fit them together but they are stuck and you cannot move them, hitting them with a hard object to break them loose, but not hard enough to break them is typically all that is needed to keep them from binding up again.
sanding the entire body may result in a loose fit.
