Sobre este modelo

Phenylacetic Acid (C8H8O2, CAS 103-82-2) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Instead of colour coding, every sphere carries its engraved element symbol. Ordinary molecular STL files leave students guessing, because the colour scheme that identifies atoms on screen does not survive printing. The MolGod approach puts the information where students look for it, on the atom: every sphere is engraved with its symbol. The purpose is educational: teachers get printable files built to shorten the step of 'which atom is this?' and leave more time for chemistry. For teachers it also saves preparation: the file is already modelled and labelled, so the only steps left are scaling and slicing. More about the hypothesis we are testing with these models: https://molgod.org/engraved-molecular-models/. Start with the ring system: Phenylacetic Acid has one aromatic 6-membered ring; in total the model carries 18 bonds (11 single, 1 double and 6 aromatic, drawn in Kekulé form). Hand the model round and let students tally the engraved atoms: 8 C + 8 H + 2 O, 18 in total. On the printed model, students can point to the carboxylic acid group (-COOH). Students meeting aromaticity and delocalised electrons, as well as the carbonyl group (C=O) for the first time can hold an example in their hands. Natural follow-up models: 4-Aminophenylacetic acid (CAS 1197-55-3) and Methyl 3-oxo-4-phenylbutanoate (CAS 37779-49-0), close enough in structure for a spot-the-difference task. Free for education: MolGod.org publishes engraved molecular models for teachers, students and schools. Teachers: let students set the model beside a skeletal formula and list what the drawing omits. This printable molecule is free to use in lessons, clubs and workshops. If you share a photo, a lesson or an adapted version, the licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) asks for credit to "MolGod.org" as the model's author, a link to the original and to the licence text, a note of what you changed, and the same licence for adaptations; the attribution line below is ready to copy. Nothing else is needed: no account, no cost, no compulsory feedback. Help us make better models for students! A comment with your honest review, what worked, what was hard to read, what you would change, is the best gift you can give us. More at https://molgod.org/contact/. Feel free to discuss the model here, compare notes with other educators, or contact us; every conversation helps us build better teaching models. Need a different molecule? Send us its CAS number and we will gladly prepare an engraved 3D model of it. STL mesh: 233,364 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.
