Sobre este modelo

Neopentyl glycol (C5H12O2, CAS 126-30-7) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Symbols are engraved into every atom, so students read atoms by symbol, not by colour. Colour keys break down in 3D printing, because an STL holds geometry alone and most classroom printers use one filament at a time. MolGod models carry the chemical symbol on every ball as an engraving, which survives slicing, printing and handling. We design these models so that students can name every atom straight away and concentrate on connectivity, bond types and shape. Teachers get the structure and its atom labels in a single download, which removes the slowest steps before a classroom print. Teachers and researchers can find the project rationale and validation plan at The story behind these engraved molecule models. No ring closes anywhere in Neopentyl glycol, which makes it a good open-chain example: 19 atoms, 18 bonds, all of them single. Hand the model round and let students tally the engraved atoms: 5 C + 12 H + 2 O, 19 in total. On the printed model, students can point to the two hydroxyl groups (-OH). Students meeting alcohols and hydrogen bonding for the first time can hold an example in their hands. Isomers in the same collection: 1-Ethoxy-2-propanol (CAS 1569-02-4). Print them together and ask the class to spot where the atoms moved. MolGod.org shares these models for free to make chemistry tangible in the classroom. Teachers: use it as a hands-on starter before drawing the structural formula on the board. Download it, print it and use it in your teaching. Sharing it somewhere? The licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) needs four things: "MolGod.org" credited as the creator, links to the original and to the licence, a mention of any changes, and adaptations released under the same licence. The attribution text below covers the first two. No sign-up, no fees and no review required. Real classroom feedback is what makes these models better. Please comment with your review and your suggestions, or write to us at Ask us for another molecule. Questions about the chemistry behind this molecule are welcome too: start a discussion in the comments and we will happily join in. Any molecule your course needs can be modelled: just send us the CAS number. STL mesh: 209,048 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.
