Update - new version Thanks to your feedback, I have prepared an updated and improved V2. There are quite a few changes, so you can find more details below.
I would like to thank everyone for your suggestions and for reporting the problems you encountered. Your feedback helps me make decisions and prioritize improvements. This is my first project where I am fully embracing this kind of community collaboration, and I am really happy with how it has turned out.I look forward to hearing more of your feedback and suggestions for future improvements. You guys are great!
Magic Box ✨ A tiny magical box with a clever double-drawer mechanism that allows you to make small objects seemingly disappear in an instant. Place a small object inside, say the proper spell, and perform your little trick! Printing - Quick and easy to print
- PLA recommended
- The outer box A requires a few tiny supports. See the attached file for the recommended support placement.
Assembly The Magic Box consists of just 4 parts and is very simple to assemble. - Insert part B (the slider) into the outer box A. - Pay attention to the orientation.
- The rails on part A must face upwards.
- The hook on part B must also face upwards.
- Insert parts C and D into each other. - C is the actual drawer.
- D is the hidden/fake drawer.
- Insert the assembled C + D unit into the prepared outer box A at a slight angle. Apply a little pressure until it clicks securely into place.
That's it! Your Magic Box is ready. Now find a small object, place it inside, say the appropriate spell, and make it disappear. 🪄
Tips for performing - Use a heavier object disappear (such as a die or a small piece of metal). Avoid using just a small piece of paper. The additional weight helps prevent the two drawers from bad shifting apart when the box is opened.
- Keep the box slightly tilted towards the audience. This again helps prevent unwanted movement when revealing the object in the open position, and it also makes less possible for the audience to see inside box.
V2 Changelog - Despite numerous changes, the outer dimensions of the box remain unchanged.
- The outer drawer has been shortened to prevent the inner drawer from falling out and to allow the inner drawer to rest on the new support ledge inside the part A
- The outer drawer has been widened by 0.25 mm to make the fit tighter and the movement more secure. The inner drawer has been widened accordingly.
- Both drawers have thinner bottom part now, faster print and less suspicious thickness
- The inner drawer has been extended at the expense of the front face of the outer drawer. This helps prevent the inner drawer from falling out when fully opened.
- The slider has been redesigned. The glide plates are 0.2 mm thinner to allow the slider to move more freely.
- Part A has 0.1 mm shorter guide rails, making it less likely for the outer drawer to fall out.
- Part A also features a new addition — a small support ledge that supports the inner drawer from inside when the outer drawer is extended.
Bigger Magic Box Alongside the updated original version, I am also working on larger version of the Magic Box, designed to fit a standard-sized die. More videos
