Lunar Luminary – High-Detail NASA Moon Surface Pendant Lamp Bring a piece of the cosmos into your home! This modular 3D-printable pendant lamp is created using high-resolution 900 MB lunar surface topography data directly from NASA. The geological features and craters have been enhanced so that the surface textures come alive in detail when illuminated from within. Key Features & Design - Modular Dual-Style Design: Can be used either as an open dome shade (using just the upper half) or joined with the bottom piece to form a complete moon sphere. - Moon Phase Thermal Vents: The ventilation holes at the top are designed in the shapes of the phases of the Moon, combining functional heat dissipation with a thematic artistic touch. - Optimized Topography: Based on a real lunar radius (1,737,400 m) scaled down to a 150 mm diameter globe. Features a height exaggeration factor of 4x, perfectly tuned for 3D printing to make the craters and surface features pop visually with dramatic lighting. - Socket & Bulb Requirements: Designed for E14 sockets or other small-base light fixtures with a maximum socket diameter of 29 mm. Important: Please use low-power LED light bulbs (or other low-wattage cool-running bulbs) to prevent heat deformation. Test model uses LED E14 470 lm 4.9 W bulbs.

Recommended Print Settings - Material: PLA (or high-temp alternatives). Test models were printed using standard PLA. - Infill: 15% or higher. Note: The wall shell of the model uses surprisingly little material—in fact, the required support structure uses more filament than the globe itself. - Orientation: Print in the default orientation provided in the STL file. - Supports: Supports are strongly recommended for optimal overhang printing and detail quality.

Data Source and Credits - Data Source and credits: Topography sourced directly from NASA Scientific Visualization Studio (CGI Moon Kit). - Data Processing: The 900 MB NASA elevation dataset was processed and converted into a 3D spherical mesh using custom Python scripts to scale the topography and apply the height exaggeration. - Note on Source Files: Due to the nature of generating this model from raw high-density elevation data, only STL files are available.
