IKEA TRÅDFRI Switch Mount for Clipsal Switch Plate

Mount IKEA TRÅDFRI E1743 on/off switches on an Australian Clipsal Classic / C2000 switch plate, without making the plate any bigger. This is a remix of IKEA BILRESA Clipsal Wall Plate Mount by The Stock Pot (https://www.printables.com/model/1827933). It uses the same clip-on Clipsal plate, with new holders for the TRÅDFRI E1743 instead of BILRESA.

The switch sits nearly flush in a deep cradle and is held by a magnet. You can lift it out to use it in your hand or to change the battery. Finger notches at the top and bottom make it easy to grab. Variants (one per plate in the print profile)

- switch2: two E1743s side by side, covering both wall switches

- switch_left: one E1743 on the left, and the right-hand wall switch stays usable

- switch_right: one E1743 on the right, and the left-hand wall switch stays usable

- switch_center: one E1743 in the centre, over a 1-gang or 2-gang wall switch

Standard plate (switch2): The Stock Pot’s wall plate, unmodified. The holder covers the plate’s switch slot, and a recess underneath clears the wall-switch rockers.

Custom plates (switch_left, switch_right, switch_center): the long slot is filled and replaced with openings that match a genuine Clipsal 2-gang cover.

- On switch_left and switch_right, the wall switch you keep pokes through its own opening. It looks and works just as it did on the original Clipsal plate.

- switch_center has one rounded opening, hidden under the cradle. It’s wide enough for a single centred rocker or two rockers.

- On all three, both screws sit under the cradle, and the unused screw holes are filled.

What you need

- 2× M3 × 6 mm countersunk screws, the same as the original BILRESA mount. They go in from the wall side of the plate.

- 1× 8 × 2 mm neodymium magnet per E1743

- A drop of CA glue or epoxy

Check the polarity before gluing. The E1743 has its own magnet inside. Hold the switch over the magnet and make sure it pulls the switch in rather than pushing it away. Insert the switch with the “O” (off) button at the top. Printing

- PLA (matte looks great), 0.20 mm layers, 3 walls, 10% infill, no supports

- Holders: print plate-side down, cradle up. The taper only narrows as it rises, and the recess underneath bridges cleanly.

- Wall plates: print face-down.

- Print profile: one plate per kit (wall plate + holder).

Fit notes

- The E1743 measures 45.2 mm square. The cradle allows 0.4 mm clearance per side.

- The custom plates expect your rockers to sit where a genuine Clipsal C2032VH 2-gang cover has its openings: 19.9 mm openings, 16.2 mm either side of centre. They line up on a standard Clipsal 2-gang grid.

- The cradle should also take the E1766 open/close remote and the E1812 shortcut button, if they share the 45 mm body.

- The OpenSCAD source is included. Open it in OpenSCAD’s Customizer to change the clearance, magnet size or cradle depth.

- The Stock Pot’s wall plate is included. It’s unmodified for switch2. For the custom-plate variants, the slot is filled, rocker openings are cut and the screw holes are moved.

- The holders’ concave taper follows The Stock Pot’s mount. The holders themselves are new designs.
