Sobre este modelo

Ibuprofen, (+-) (C13H18O2, CAS 15687-27-1) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Instead of colour coding, every sphere carries its engraved element symbol. A one-colour print of a molecule hides the most basic information, which element each atom is, because STL keeps no colour data. MolGod models carry the chemical symbol on every ball as an engraving, which survives slicing, printing and handling. The project exists to put these files in teachers' hands, so that identifying atoms becomes quick and the lesson can move on to how atoms interact. Teachers skip the modelling and labelling work entirely: download the file, set the scale in the slicer and print. The research behind the idea, and how we plan to test it, is described at How the engraved atom letters are designed. Ask students to describe the framework of Ibuprofen, (+-) before anything else: one aromatic 6-membered ring. Then count the bonds together; there are 33 (26 single, 1 double and 6 aromatic, drawn in Kekulé form). How many atoms can the class find? The engraved spheres give 13 C + 18 H + 2 O, so the answer should be 33. This molecule gives students these functional groups to identify: carboxylic acid group (-COOH). Find the one stereocentre of Ibuprofen, (+-) first; because this record gives no R or S, the follow-up question is what the mirror image would look like. Plan it into a unit on aromaticity and delocalised electrons, on chirality, enantiomers and CIP (R/S) rules, as well as on the carbonyl group (C=O). Teachers and students can use this MolGod.org model free of charge. Teachers: pass the model round at the start of the lesson, before showing any diagram. Download it, print it and use it in your teaching. When you publish a photo, a worksheet or a remix, CC BY-SA 4.0 requires you to credit "MolGod.org" as the author of the model, link to the original and to the licence, indicate any changes and share remixes under the same licence (the ready attribution line is below). There is no registration, no payment and no obligation to rate it. Real classroom feedback is what makes these models better. Please comment with your review and your suggestions, or write to us at Write to the MolGod team. Feel free to discuss the model here, compare notes with other educators, or contact us; every conversation helps us build better teaching models. Just send us a CAS number: we will build a custom engraved 3D model of that molecule for you.
