Sobre este modelo

A printable two-part mold for a cute little ghost candle. No silicone needed: print the two halves, close them, pour the wax, and pop the ghost out.

I've cast two ghosts in it so far (white and a soft grey-blue), and both came out cleanly.

What I changed from the original

The ghost itself is "Cute Low Poly Ghost" by KadeX (https://makerworld.com/models/2226111-cute-low-poly-ghost) — thank you for sharing it under CC0! I didn't change the ghost's shape. I used it as the master and turned it into a mold:

- the ghost is subtracted from a solid block, so you print a negative cavity instead of the figure;

- the block is split down the middle into two halves that close together, so the candle comes out without cutting or flexing;

- a pour opening is added at the top, and it also holds the wick between the halves.

What's in the files

- Two mold halves (about 108 × 108 mm each) on one plate

- A pour opening at the top that also holds the wick

What you'll need

- Wax: I use a 50/50 blend of soy wax and paraffin

- A wick

- A release agent — a thin layer of petroleum jelly works well

- Optional: wax colorant

How to cast

1. Print both halves. I used a fine 0.08 mm layer height so the face comes out crisp.

2. Wipe a thin layer of petroleum jelly inside both halves.

3. Place the wick in the groove at the top and close the halves — the mold holds the wick in place.

4. Pour the melted wax slowly through the top opening.

5. As it cools the wax will sink a little in the middle — top it up with a second pour.

6. When it's fully cool, open the halves and take the ghost out.

How the mold was made

You can build a two-part mold like this in any CAD program if you're willing to spend some time on it. I made it with 3DGEN — it turns any STL into a printable two-part mold right in the browser, no CAD needed: https://3dgenapp.com/cults
