When installing my Ecobee Enhanced thermostat, I didn't need the full-sized decorative trim plate to cover large holes, but I wanted to try and thermally isolate the thermostat unit from the wall. I designed this 6mm thick thermal trim plate spacer that precisely matches the footprint of the Ecobee.

When installing my Ecobee Enhanced thermostat, I didn't need the full-sized decorative trim plate to cover large holes, but I wanted to try and thermally isolate the thermostat unit from the wall. I designed this 6mm thick thermal trim plate spacer that precisely matches the footprint of the Ecobee Enhanced backplate. - Compatibility: Designed for the Ecobee Enhanced, but it should also fit the Ecobee Premium. Note that this will not fit the Ecobee Essential (which has a smaller footprint). - Performance: Adding this thermal isolate plate resolved draft interference—I no longer need to adjust the Settings->Installation Settings->Thresholds->Temperature Correction setting on the Ecobee to match the actual ambient room air temperature. - Tip: I also recommend using HVAC duct sealing putty around the wire opening behind the plate to completely stop wall cavity drafts.
