Sobre este modelo

Decane (C10H22, CAS 124-18-5) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Whatever the filament colour, each atom reads clearly thanks to its engraved symbol. On a typical printed molecule every sphere is the same anonymous ball, since the STL file cannot transmit the usual colour convention. MolGod adds what the STL format leaves out by engraving the element symbol into each atom of the printed structure. The purpose is educational: teachers get printable files built to shorten the step of 'which atom is this?' and leave more time for chemistry. The labelling that would otherwise be done with stickers or paint after printing is already part of the file. The research behind the idea, and how we plan to test it, is described at The story behind these engraved molecule models. There is not a single ring in Decane; 32 atoms are linked by 31 bonds in an open chain (all of them single). Students work from the model back to the formula C10H22: the symbol count is 10 C + 22 H, or 32 atoms all told. Students meeting saturated carbon chains and tetrahedral (sp3) carbon for the first time can hold an example in their hands. Worth printing alongside it: Hexane (CAS 110-54-3) and Pentane (CAS 109-66-0), structurally the nearest in the collection. Without any hydrogen-bond donor or acceptor (computed), it shows students what attraction between molecules looks like when hydrogen bonding is absent. Free for education: MolGod.org publishes engraved molecular models for teachers, students and schools. Teachers: let students set the model beside a skeletal formula and list what the drawing omits. Print it, hand it round and build a lesson around it. Publishing pictures, materials or remixes of it?
