Sobre este modelo
I have some fantastic looking Braun RL-10 speakers that have good detail for the frequencies they can produce but fall off completely above 8 kHz or so. Wanting to keep the look of these speakers but trying to improve the sound of the full system I decided to build some tweeters. This design is based around the Dayton Audio AMT Mini-8 tweeters, which perform well all the way up to 40 kHz, making them solidly super tweeters. I don't claim to be able to hear anything above 20 kHz but given my original speakers fell off where they did these have noticeably improved the clarity and airiness of music. Parts you'll need: - 2x Dayton Audio AMT Mini-8 Hi-Res Air Motion Transformer Tweeter: https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-AMT-Mini-8-Air-Motion-Transformer-Tweeter-275-095?quantity=1
- 2x Parts Express Gold Binding Post Banana Jack 5-Way Speaker Terminal: https://www.parts-express.com/Gold-Plated-Banana-5-Way-Speaker-Terminal-260-302?quantity=1
- 2x inline filter capacitors. I used these: Audyn Cap Q4 3.9uF 400V MKP Capacitor https://www.parts-express.com/Audyn-Cap-Q4-3.9uF-400V-MKP-Foil-Capacitor-027-113?quantity=1 - For the capacitors, I recommend picking ones with slightly higher capacitance (4.7 uF is a good starting point) unless you are confident that your sound system has significant roll off in the 4-8 kHz range and above
- 1/2" clear rubber bumpers such as these: https://www.amazon.com/Cabinet-Bumpers-Adhesive-Cupboard-Cabinets/dp/B08BR6CGWL
- 12x M3 heat set inserts
- 12x M3 bolts (10 or 12mm should work)
- A short length of speaker wire
- Spade connectors
- Heat shrink (to protect the connection between the capacitor in series with the tweeter)
- Optional: 1 oz wheel weights or some other adhesive weight to increase the stability of the tweeter assembly when sitting on a larger speaker
At the time of building these (Oct 2026) I was able to purchase the speaker-specific hardware for under $80. I recommend printing the speaker pods with the rear facing down using automatic organic supports. I also used fuzzy skin on outside walls only with a thickness of 0.05 mm and a point distance of 0.4 mm.
