Sobre este modelo

2-Phenyl-1,3-thiazole-5-carbaldehyde (C10H7NOS, CAS 1011-40-1) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Each atom is labelled with its own engraved element symbol: no colour chart needed. On a typical printed molecule every sphere is the same anonymous ball, since the STL file cannot transmit the usual colour convention. MolGod adds what the STL format leaves out by engraving the element symbol into each atom of the printed structure. The purpose is educational: teachers get printable files built to shorten the step of 'which atom is this?' and leave more time for chemistry. It shortens the path from lesson plan to printed model, because no one has to build the molecule or add labels by hand. More about the hypothesis we are testing with these models: https://molgod.org/engraved-molecular-models/. Turn the model in your hand to see the shape of 2-Phenyl-1,3-thiazole-5-carbaldehyde: two rings (one 5-membered and one 6-membered), both aromatic, and 21 bonds in total (9 single, 1 double and 11 aromatic, drawn in Kekulé form). How many atoms can the class find? The engraved spheres give 10 C + 7 H + 1 N + 1 O + 1 S, so the answer should be 20. This molecule gives students these functional groups to identify: aldehyde group (-CHO) and pyridine-type ring nitrogen. Students meeting aromaticity and delocalised electrons, heteroaromatic rings (nitrogen inside an aromatic ring), as well as the carbonyl group (C=O) for the first time can hold an example in their hands. Worth printing alongside it: 1-Benzothiophene-2-carbaldehyde (CAS 3541-37-5) and Benzaldehyde (CAS 100-52-7), structurally the nearest in the collection. Part of the MolGod.org free library of engraved molecules for chemistry classrooms. Teachers: pass the model round at the start of the lesson, before showing any diagram. The model is yours to download, print and teach with. Sharing it somewhere? The licence (CC BY-SA 4.0) needs four things: "MolGod.org" credited as the creator, links to the original and to the licence, a mention of any changes, and adaptations released under the same licence. The attribution text below covers the first two. No sign-up, no fees and no review required. Help us make better models for students! A comment with your honest review, what worked, what was hard to read, what you would change, is the best gift you can give us. More at https://molgod.org/contact/. Have an idea for a lesson built around this molecule? Share it in the comments so other teachers can use it too. Our service starts from a CAS number: you name the compound, we turn it into an engraved, printable 3D model.
