Sobre este modelo
2-Ethylhexanol (C8H18O, CAS 104-76-7) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Element symbols are cut into each atom sphere: a self-labelled teaching aid. On a typical printed molecule every sphere is the same anonymous ball, since the STL file cannot transmit the usual colour convention. Each atom of a MolGod model is engraved with its element symbol, turning a plain print into a self-explaining teaching object. The project aims to let a student work out the arrangement of atoms, the bonds and the geometry of the molecule independently, without a colour key and without waiting for the teacher. Instead of building a model from scratch, a teacher can go straight from the molecule's name to a file in the slicer. Background, references and the planned classroom study: https://molgod.org/engraved-molecular-models/. 2-Ethylhexanol is a chain molecule with no ring: 26 bonds (all of them single) connect its 27 atoms. A five-minute warm-up: read the symbol on every sphere and write down the totals (8 C + 18 H + 1 O = 27 atoms). Team task: with the model in hand, each group marks the hydroxyl group (-OH), then writes down what they found. Find the one stereocentre of 2-Ethylhexanol first; because this record gives no R or S, the follow-up question is what the mirror image would look like. Students meeting chirality, enantiomers and CIP (R/S) rules, as well as alcohols and hydrogen bonding for the first time can hold an example in their hands. MolGod.org offers this engraved model free to anyone teaching or learning chemistry. Teachers: print one per group and let students check the structure against the formula. Free to print and free to bring into any classroom. CC BY-SA 4.0 sets four simple conditions for anything you publish with it: credit "MolGod.org" as the model's author, link the original and the licence, say what you changed, and share derivatives alike. Copy the attribution line below to get it right. No sign-up, no fees and no review required. Printed it? Used it in class? Please share a quick review in the comments and suggest how we can make our molecules even more useful for learning. You can also contact us at https://molgod.org/contact/. Let's talk chemistry! Ask anything about this structure in the comments, and other teachers are warmly invited to share their lesson ideas. Your curriculum needs a specific compound? Share the CAS number and we will create the engraved model. STL mesh: 287,604 triangles, closed (watertight) single solid. Coordinates in ångström (STL stores no unit) — scale the model deliberately in your slicer.
