Sobre este modelo
1-Ethoxy-2-propanol (C5H12O2, CAS 1569-02-4) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Read the atoms directly: each sphere bears an engraved element symbol. A one-colour print of a molecule hides the most basic information, which element each atom is, because STL keeps no colour data. Our answer is to cut each element symbol into its sphere, so the printed object labels itself in any colour of filament. The purpose is educational: teachers get printable files built to shorten the step of 'which atom is this?' and leave more time for chemistry. Teachers get the structure and its atom labels in a single download, which removes the slowest steps before a classroom print. Read why we engrave the atoms, and which studies inspired the project: The story behind these engraved molecule models. Ask the class whether 1-Ethoxy-2-propanol contains a ring. It does not: 19 atoms and 18 bonds (all of them single) make up an open structure. Quick starter: ask students to count the engraved symbols (5 C + 12 H + 2 O) and check that they add up to 19 atoms and the formula C5H12O2. This molecule gives students these functional groups to identify: hydroxyl group (-OH) and ether linkage (C-O-C). 1-Ethoxy-2-propanol makes an open question in stereochemistry: one stereocentre, configuration not given, and room for students to propose R or S. A good fit for lessons on chirality, enantiomers and CIP (R/S) rules, as well as on alcohols and hydrogen bonding. MolGod.org offers this engraved model free to anyone teaching or learning chemistry. Teachers: pass the model round at the start of the lesson, before showing any diagram. This printable molecule is free to use in lessons, clubs and workshops. When you publish a photo, a worksheet or a remix, CC BY-SA 4.0 requires you to credit "MolGod.org" as the author of the model, link to the original and to the licence, indicate any changes and share remixes under the same licence (the ready attribution line is below). You don't need an account, you don't pay anything, and a review is entirely up to you. Printed it? Used it in class? Please share a quick review in the comments and suggest how we can make our molecules even more useful for learning. You can also contact us at Ask us for another molecule. Have an idea for a lesson built around this molecule? Share it in the comments so other teachers can use it too.
